Kamenny Log vs Kotlovka vs Benyakoni: Which Belarus Border Crossing Is Fastest

Kamenny Log — The Main Choice

The highest-traffic checkpoint. Good infrastructure, two lanes for private cars, a fee zone, café and toilets on both sides. Located on the M7 Minsk–Vilnius highway. The Lithuanian side is called Medininkai.

• ▸Pros: fast processing, well-developed infrastructure, convenient highway.
• ▸Cons: the busiest crossing — can queue up to 6 hours at peak times.
• ▸Best time: Tuesday–Wednesday, 6:00–11:00.

Benyakoni — The Backup Option

A backup crossing 60 km south of Kamenny Log; the Lithuanian side is Šalčininkai. Less traffic but also lower throughput. The detour adds about 40 minutes to Vilnius.

• ▸Pros: shorter queue on weekends.
• ▸Cons: longer route to Vilnius (~140 km instead of ~100 km from Kamenny Log), modest facilities.
• ▸When to choose: Friday evening and Sunday afternoon when Kamenny Log is backed up.

Kotlovka — Restricted Operation

Since 2023, traffic through Kotlovka has been restricted. For most private passenger routes in 2026 the checkpoint is effectively unavailable. Always check the latest situation before departure.

How to Choose a Crossing on the Day of Travel

1. 1.Check the Belarusian State Customs Committee website for the current queue length.
2. 2.Compare: if Kamenny Log shows more than 150 cars, consider Benyakoni.
3. 3.Factor in the day of the week: Friday–Sunday — strongly consider Benyakoni.
4. 4.Check VSAT (Lithuanian side) — Lithuanian processing sometimes takes longer than Belarusian.
