Belarus–Lithuania Border Crossing Guide 2026: Wait Times, Documents & Checkpoints

The Belarus–Lithuania border is our busiest transfer route. Here is everything you need to know for 2026: open checkpoints, average crossing times, required documents, common reasons for refusal and tips from our drivers.

Open Checkpoints in 2026

Of the four historic crossings between Belarus and Lithuania, only two operate reliably for private cars in 2026: Kamenny Log (Losha) and Benyakoni. Kotlovka operates on a restricted basis; Lavorishkes is closed to private vehicles. Always check the Belarusian State Customs Committee and Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) before departure.

Documents for Entry into Lithuania

  • Valid passport (at least 3 months' validity beyond the planned EU exit date).
  • Schengen visa or EU residence permit.
  • Medical insurance with coverage of at least €30,000.
  • Proof of purpose of trip: hotel booking, tickets, invitation letter.
  • Proof of sufficient funds (~€50 per day).
  • For minors travelling without both parents — notarised parental consent.

How Long Does the Border Take?

The border is the most unpredictable part of the Minsk–Vilnius journey. Based on our drivers' data for 2025–2026, on weekdays in the morning and afternoon Kamenny Log takes 2.5–4 hours. On Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons it can stretch to 6–8 hours. Benyakoni is typically 1–1.5 hours slower, though shifts occasionally change this.

Driver Tips

  • Quietest time: Tuesday–Wednesday, 6:00–11:00.
  • On Fridays and Sundays allow an extra 6-hour buffer on top of normal journey time.
  • If one crossing is jammed, a ComfortLine driver will switch routes — Kamenny Log and Benyakoni are 40 minutes apart.
  • Fill up in Belarus: fuel is 30–40% cheaper than in Lithuania.
  • Keep all documents in one folder — it speeds up the inspection noticeably.

Common Reasons for Entry Refusal

  • Expired or incorrectly issued insurance.
  • No confirmation of purpose of trip or return tickets.
  • Incorrectly completed customs declaration.
  • Suspected sanctioned goods (see our separate customs guide).
  • Passport expiring within 1–2 months.
If you need to guarantee you make your flight — book a ComfortLine transfer with a border buffer. Our drivers monitor queue lengths in real time and can switch checkpoints instantly.
